Wooden Fence

There is a rich heritage of beautiful wooden fences in Sweden, which we can learn from in the UK. It’s time to put some care into our garden’s most important façade – its fence!

Flat Top Fence

This is a fence that fits in most contexts. Both the posts, the top rail and the slats are protected by a cover board. The illustrated fence has 40mm between the slats, which end 100mm above the ground. The height is 1.05 meters.

Swedish Picket Fence

This fence has medieval origins. It was often painted barn red with white tips. You don’t have to rebate the rails into the posts, but it makes a neat job. The slats are 700mm wide and they end 100mm above the ground. The overall height is 1.2 meters.

Low Fence

Often, low fences are boring, with the slats too wide for the height. This fence is very simple, with two sizes to give a nice rhythm. The slats finish 80mm above the ground. The posts lie behind the rails and the pole distances are therefore unimportant. The height is 800mm.
